Booking a flight on SAA is simple. Customers can book an air ticket from the website, mobile app, call center, or authorized travel agents. The website offers different classes of fares and an easy booking facility.

South African Airways has dogs, cats, and birds as checked animal bags on local travel. The pet case cannot weigh more than 1m x 1m and 23kg. Larger cages have to be shipped as freight. There is a surcharge of ZAR 300 plus VAT on any form of travel. Pets have to check in at least 90 minutes before flight departure time and original vaccination and rabies certificate have to be produced at check-in time. No snakes.
International travel is encompassed under shipping all pets as manifested cargo under an Air Waybill (AWB) with transit flights with or without transfer. No pets travel through the passenger security checkpoint for international travel.
Passengers on a flight to or from the United States might be allowed a service dog, emotional support animal, or psychiatric support dog on an approved document. Any other pet is not taken on board and has to be paid for as excess baggage.
SAA has a special section for single young children traveling alone or without a parent or guardian in its Unaccompanied Minor (UMNR) policy. It is compulsory for 5 to 11 years old traveling alone without a parent or guardian. It is optional but available for 12 to 15 years old.
UMNR bookings must be over the call center or an agent but not the internet.
The parents or guardians would need to sign a UMHA (Unaccompanied Minor Handling Advice) with the details of the adults dropping off and picking the child up. The representative adult must bring the child to the departure point and check him/her in two hours before departure time.
